The first ‘Tesla town’ is being built in a small suburb off Melbourne’s business district in Australia. Every house will enjoy a solar roof and built-in Tesla Powerwall. This will be one of the most sustainable developments found in Australia.
Residents at Tesla Town can expect water-use reduced by 43% with solar-panels generating much of the electricity that residents will use (and what will be used to recharge their electric cars for free!).
The town was developed by the property group Glenvill and has been named Yarrabend, a namesake of the Yarra River running through the actual neighborhood. When complete, the suburb will cover over 16 hectares of land with 2,500 new dwellings (combining single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments). The first sixty homes are already on sale with prices between $1.48 million and $2.1 million.
The buildings in Tesla Town are designed to minimize their impact on the environment. All homes offer a range of green features including the storage of solar power, electric-car charging stations and energy efficient lighting and appliances. Contracts for the new residences are expected to be officially signed in August, with residents able to move-in around late 2017.
The Powerwall stores energy generated by solar panels during the day and makes it available for nighttime usage.(www.forbes.com)
