In their arid climate, Iran-based BMDesign Studios are addressing the issue of water scarcity. They been investigating a double-roof system that can collect and store rainwater, preserving the valuable liquid in concave bowls, whilst taking advantage of its cooling effect!
The Concave Roof allows small drops of rain to flow down and collect into bigger drops delaying evaporation. In addition, collected water is funneled into reservoirs between building walls. Doing so contributes to temperature regulation indoors.
Larger scale systems are underway where concave collectors are arranged to create a centralized atrium around which a community can gather. Environmental and social engineering in perfect symbiosis.}
