If you are brave enough to face the deep, off the coast of the Canary Islands, Spain, you’ll find an underwater spectacular. Do not be fooled however. This installation is not simply entertainment, it has a much more profound purpose. Found 14 meters underwater, it means to raise awareness of the threats facing our world’s oceans, draw attention to the refugee crisis and form a complex reef for marine species to inhabit.
The underwater sculptures are the work of Jason deCaires Taylor, an artist whose artworks are situated at the Museo Atlantico. This museum (in Lanzarote) is Europe’s first one to be found/discovered undersea!
Visiting Museo Atlantico will surely lead to a closer understanding of our intricate relationship with the natural marine environment, helping us all to appreciate, value and protect this fragile liquid ecosystem, that in turn takes care of us! Truly beautiful and well-worth a visit!
