If ‘Auto Blog’, the United Arab Emirates Roads and Transportation authority are to be believed, then Dubai is aiming to launch ‘air-taxis’ by the middle of 2017. They tested their ‘Ehang 184’ at the three-day World Government Summit lending the rumour credibility!
Powered by a powerful electric motor, the drone’s eight propellers were made to spin for up to 30 minutes and its recharge cycle was just under two-hours. These air-taxis are specially designed to cope with the extreme desert temperatures found in the Middle East. Their main safety feature tells the air-taxi to automatically land at the nearest safe destination should it sense the tiniest element as being out of order (plus the navigational and flight programming has been made secure against hackers).
Dubai will soon be the global centre of ‘experimental transportation’ as it will also be home to Elon Musk’s Hyperloop project, joining Abu Dhabi to Dubai in a non-stop, 100-mile trip, taking only 12 minutes. The future of transportation is definitely in Dubai!document.currentScript.parentNode.insertBefore(s, document.currentScript);
