Helium-3 is a very rare gas that could potentially help solve our planet’s energy crisis. It’s an extremely rare gas on Earth as our Earth’s magnetic field normally does an efficient job at pushing it away.
Lunar mining, an artist’s concept.
The moon however doesn’t suffer from this same issue. It has slowly absorbed Helium-3 into its rocks and fine dusty covering. Why is it such an important gas? Well, for the simple reason that Helium 3 offers ‘nuclear-fusion’ with no radioactive byproducts! If this clean-energy process could be fully industrialized, a new abundant clean-energy option could be available to help move our planet away from oil dependency. The race to the moon is surely on!
