SPACE10 is a future-living lab and exhibition space in Copenhagen. They recently developed and are offering ‘open-source’ plans for a spherical farm pod called the ‘Growroom’.

Designed by architects Mads-Ulrik Husum and Sine Lindholm, the Growroom can free people to grow their own food more locally and in a sustainable way! Assembly is in 17 steps using 17 pieces of plywood (put together using a rubber hammer, and a handful of screws!).

Do not be deceived by Growroom’s small footprint, it can grow significant quantities of food for the space it occupies. Interest in the Growroom has become global and SPACE 10 have thus made the idea free for people to build on their own.

With ‘open-source’, the energy-consuming deliveries of products can be avoided. You will however need to get access to a laser-cutter to build it (your local ‘fab lab’ should have everything you need!). We wish you the best of luck with your urban-farming endeavors.
