The Swiss have just passed a new energy law! This law adamantly promotes ‘renewable’ energy and bans nuclear power plants to effectively shut-down any talk of future investment in nuclear energy.

It is a truly monumental decision that brings Switzerland ever-closer to its 4,400 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable energy target by 2020, and 11,400 GWh by 2035. Doris Leuthard, the Swiss Energy declared this decision now opens a new chapter in Switzerland’s energy policy. As of 2019, licenses for nuclear power plants will no longer be sold. Furthermore, when existing power plants reach the end of their lifespan, they will not be replaced but decommissioned.

Switzerland will now begin increasing its renewable energy output via solar, wind, biomass and geothermal strategies.
