Many innovative people continue to work on ways to resolve the plastic ocean waste problem. Enter the U.S.-based startup ByFusion. This company is using technology to repurpose ocean plastic into durable construction blocks.

The principal engineer of the company Peter Lewis has invented RePlast. RePlast has gone through a process that manages to compress sea plastic into variously shaped blocks of different density. It has been described as an almost 100% carbon neutral, non-toxic manufacturing process. The use of RePlast blocks can contribute to LEED Certification having 95% lower greenhouse gas emissions than the traditional concrete block. The material can be customized for use in other types of construction projects and with such flexibility, this building-unit represents the next wave of future sustainable construction.
