2.5 x 3.5 x 1 – The World’s Smallest?

The University of Michigan has developed a ‘tiny’ solar powered sensor, currently the World’s smallest at 2.5×3.5x1mm. It is pictured here against a single American Cent (it has to be seen to be believed).

It has a volume of 9 cubic millimeters, significantly smaller than its competitors. It has potential within the biomedical field as a monitor due to its scale and that it can take energy from its environment, it can run almost perpetually if exposed to light periodically. Truly amazing!
